Hi there everyone.

My name is Melissa and I am adopted from Bogota, Colombia.

I just read a short summary of this community and thought I would join. Is anyone else here adopted from South America? Or does anyone have information on helping someone curious about finding their birthparents? I'm going to be 21 this year and I think it's time I found out where I came from.

I was also adopted from Bogotá, Colombia in 1972 through FANA, an international adoption agency. I tried at one point to find my birth mother and found that (though I never followed through) the information was available to me if the records still existed.

I am very thankful that I was given a chance at a better life and if I had a laughable regret, it is not being fluent in Spanish. If you are not fluent in the language, I am sure you have experienced Hispanic people who naturally try to speak to you in Spanish. I feel terrible sometimes about it.
